And I haven’t been giving it the exercise I know it deserves.
Before I get into this, a disclaimer: I am not a doctor, or any type of medical professional. Everything I say is based on my own experiences and opinions. Do your due diligence. Do your own research and talk to the professionals you find trustworthy.
I have spent this summer bouncing around between different medical professionals, trying to figure out my son’s eye problems. It went from allergies, to conjunctivitis, back to severe allergies. We did every treatment diligently, with some degree of short-lasting relief. He is still not better. After some long talks with him, a revelation! Something I should have seen, something I WOULD have seen if I had been diligent.
To give you some clarity before I move on: I don’t force my kids to eat the way I do, which is carnivore. I let them choose and inform them of possible negative effects if they choose only highly-processed, sugar laden, franken-foods. I think that is a choice they need to make, and own when the outcome is not so great.
So back to my mistake. I didn’t notice how much junk my son was consuming. My revelation? I think his problems stem from a lack of proper nutrition, and a case of inflammation brought on by those awful processed ‘foods’. He chose junk over anything else, and now his health is suffering. I thank God that I know what to do to help him now. I have been on a health journey myself. I regret not being diligent and recognizing what was happening, but I am hopeful that this experience will help him recognize how important it is for him to be diligent with his own health.
So what am I doing to help him? Cooking ahead. Lots of meat and veggies, simple seasonings and sauces. He can combine a meat of his choosing, a veggie or two, and ‘flavor’ like stir-fry sauce, taco seasoning, or even ranch, pop it all into a skillet or microwave, heat through, and have a quick, nourishing meal. It isn’t much more difficult than grabbing a frozen pizza heating it up. I am also fermenting some produce to give him some good bacteria. We plan on having one day during the week where we make a homemade treat together, using real ingredients. This way he has easy meals anytime he feels hungry, and also doesn’t feel deprived of something he enjoys.
I want to note that he is totally onboard with this plan. We are working together on rebuilding his health, so he can feel better and enjoy life again.
